Insulation
Although the weather’s still cold outside, it’s really starting to warm up in the new building!
As the rough plumbing and electrical work are completed, the walls are being insulated.
The insulation in the exterior walls is blown in. Cellulose is “green.” It’s made of 80% post-consumer recycled newsprint. The fiber is chemically treated with non-toxic borate compounds (20% by weight) to resist fire, insects and mold. A thin cloth is applied over the studs creating a cavity for the cellulose. The cellulose is then blown in using a machine. The cloth allows the air to escape but holds in the cellulose. This allows it to be packed in very densely, which alleviates any settling in the future.
